Challenges of the Drylands
"Challenges of the Drylands"
A panel discussion moderated by Jeffrey Sachs with East African Leaders, followed by a question and answer session with the audience.
The drylands of Africa, the Middle East and Central Asia are impoverished regions who face frequent droughts and diminishing farmable land. In these areas, as climate change impacts are felt and access to water and food becomes limited, populations start fighting for resources and migrate to areas that cannot properly support them. Join Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs, Dr. Belay Begashaw from the Earth Institute's MDG Centre, East and Southern Africa, Upmanu Lall, director of the Columbia Water Center, and several African leaders for a discussion about the best ways for the United States, Europe, China, India, and wealthy oil-based economies of the Middle East to collaborate and develop real solutions to these challenges.
